The festive spirit has whirled into Class 3 this week!
In Mathematics, we have been continuing our topic: area. As well as comparing area of shapes and counting ½ squares, the children were set the challenge of drawing a house with an area of 17 squares. This fuelled the children’s creativity as there were multiple houses of a variety of shapes and sizes. Despite needing to be prompted with accurate shading, most children used the correct number of squares for their project- well done! In English, we have been learning about cinquains; As well as performing a range of cinquains to an audience, we discussed what the structure of cinquains are like and by the end of the week wrote their own cinquain with the subject of a volcano.
In science we made our own compasses using a paperclip, a cork and a magnet. Whilst evaluating our compasses, we identified that they could be improved if we used a stronger magnet. This, on reflection, made a huge difference. In PE we continued our basketball unit where the children practiced defensive and attacking skills. During the week, we watched the KS1 Nativity, which was performed well and reminded us about why Christian’s celebrate Christmas. In RE we learnt about what Christingles are and made our own in preparation for our Christmas Service. In our Christmas Service, some members of the class read lines, and participated in the choir and recorder club which filled us with pride and joy. In computing, we planned our own animations by taking on the role of animators and towards the end of the week we hosted an art gallery which showcased our fantastic achievements.
We look forward to a final week full of festive and merry moments!
Have a brilliant weekend!
