What a truly fantastic, action-packed day we have had at Twycross Zoo today! The excitement this morning was absolutely palpable, and the children were a complete credit to our school from start to finish. We kicked off our adventure by stepping into the deep dark wood for the Gruffalo Trail. The children had a wonderful time hunting for the characters and successfully collecting all the stamps on their cards! Afterwards, we headed to our educational workshop where the children became real scientists. We examined different animal skulls and looked closely at their teeth and features to figure out their diets. We practiced using some brilliant scientific vocabulary, so please ask your child if they can tell you what these words mean: Carnivores, Herbivores and Omnivores. After working up quite an appetite, we enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch out in the sunshine, which was a massive highlight for everyone! With full tummies, we spent the afternoon exploring the rest of the zoo. The children were fascinated by the huge tortoises and loved walking through the beautiful butterflies. The cheeky monkeys kept us entertained, and the waddling penguins definitely gave us all a good giggle with their funny antics!
The children have returned with full hearts and plenty of stories. To help embed their learning, ask them tonight which animal skull was their favourite, or see if they can remember whether a penguin is a carnivore, herbivore, or omnivore!
