What a spectacular way to conclude our History topic! This week, Class 2 from both Richard Crosse and The Howard joined forces for a collaborative Great Fire of London immersion day, and it was wonderful to see the children from both schools working so brilliantly together. We started our morning by becoming artists and architects, painting dramatic, fiery skylines and constructing our own 17th-century houses to recreate the cramped streets of London. While we had hoped to safely burn our cardboard creations to demonstrate how the fire spread, the British weather had other ideas; it was unfortunately a bit too windy to do so safely, but it did mean the children got to keep their hard work! In the afternoon, the excitement continued as a theatre company visited to bring the events of 1666 to life. The children met "eyewitnesses" from the fire, allowing them to step into the shoes of people from the past and ask questions about that fateful week. It was a truly memorable day of learning and friendship, and the staff are incredibly proud of how well the children represented both schools.
