Class 3- Autumn 1- Week 3

The third week of our Autumn Term has been magnificent- our word of the week!

In Mathematics, we have been continuing with our place value topic, looking at numbers up to 10,000. We have explored concepts such as, number lines, estimation, ordering and comparing. Many who darted swiftly through the worksheets managed to deepen their understanding through extra problem-solving activities.

In English, we have continued to explore our text, ‘Leon and the Place Between’. After we read more of the story, we created dialogue between Leon and other characters. We found the acronym SCAPS particularly helpful for this. Additionally, we have learnt new skills such as creating figurative noun phrases and summarising.

In our science unit on living things and their habitats, we enjoyed learning about classification. It was interesting to observe how we can classify our class using games such as ‘Guess Who’. In history, we looked at propaganda and discussed the crucial role of women during World War 1. Year 4 created remarkable still life drawings of apples using charcoal.

A review from Miss Partington regarding this week’s outdoor learning session:

'Wow, what a fantastic time we had on our second outdoor learning session! We started our adventure by exploring the new sitting circle, discussing rules around safety and respect. Working in pairs and equipped with magnifying glasses we carefully looked at the leaves of the different trees in our outdoor area. The children were fab at spotting the tiny details! Finally, we learnt about an artist called Andy Goldsworthy. His art is called ephemeral because it doesn't last forever. We eagerly look forward to our next session where we make our own creations. To make sure the children are ready for more adventures please remember to bring in appropriate clothing. Why not ask what your child's favourite thing about outside learning is.'
