This week has been full of crafts, creativity and cleverness!

In Mathematics, we have concluded our place value topic- we have explored concepts such as rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 100, and converting numbers to Roman Numerals. Many deepened their understanding through extra reasoning questions and investigations.

In English, we have continued to explore our text, ‘Leon and the Place Between’. After we wrote a setting description, we delved into story telling by taking inspiration from the class text. We used the key skills we have learnt such as figurative noun phrases and dialogue to entertain the reader.

On Thursday, we started preparing for our Harvest Service by creating autumnal sun catchers. We used layers of tissue paper to represent the kaleidoscopic tones. In history, we looked at the trenches and discussed the ghastly conditions that the soldiers lived in whilst on the front line. Year 4 conducted research into the artist that they are focusing on for their current art unit.

A review from Miss Partington regarding this week’s outdoor learning session:

We’re thrilled to share an update on our latest Year 3 Outdoor Learning session, where the children truly became naturalists and artists! Our theme was The Art of Our Senses, and focused on engaging sight, sound, touch and smell to deepen their connection with the natural world. We kicked off the session by practicing "Sit Spot," a wonderful exercise in mindfulness and observation.  After just a few minutes of quiet focus, they shared incredibly specific observations, like the scent of "damp, earthy soil," or the sound of "a faraway bird." Following on from our previous session, the children embraced their inner artists with a challenge inspired by the famous land artist, Andy Goldsworthy. Using only materials they could find—leaves, twigs, stones, and grass—they worked collaboratively in small groups to create ephemeral art. The results were stunning! We saw intricate spirals of different coloured leaves, carefully balanced stone towers, and abstract designs.

I hope that everyone enjoys their weekends.
